Company Picnic - Teluk Ramunia

Picnic went on smoothly without problem. Thanks for the prayers...

The main difference for this year picnic is that we have it as 3 days 2 nights instead of the typical 2D1N. Guess that this arrangement allow the members have extra time to mingle together and have more swimming time... but the the problem comes in with the food arrangement, as the members supposed to prepare their own food, hence, the senior members (i assigned them to food grouping according to Platoon) have to crack their head to think of a way to keep the raw food, cooking stove, gas......blah blah blah....After all, the groups had done well in food preparation, good food....indeed, it is good to see the seniors to prepare food for the younger ones...hidden agenda is to let the seniors to take care of the juniors/recruits and to let them learn to be resource and being independent.....still i have to buy bags of ice to help them keeping the raw meat in good condition...alright, to make all of convince that the food is good....i have to say that there is no incident of members getting diarrhea... haha.

Thank God for the weather....it was sunny, and windy all the time....(lots of my members become walking lobsters)...

Thank God there is no major injury...

Thank God for the friends from s'pore...

Thank God for the fellowship...meaning new members from various schools, no fighting (hehe, there was some really tough kids around last year...this year is not as bad)...lots of younger members beside the recruits.

Thank God for the team of preparing the Picnic...seriously, only 6 of us to organise a about 180 participants and 2 outsider to organise the games....only God guidance can make it happen...

Thank God for the Officers whom attended the picnic...everyone have been so busy nowadays and everyone of us make the effort to be at present, except the band officers who were conducting their band training at school...but they still putting their time with another group of BB members.

and many more.

Back from Ledang - Part 3

Alright...i'll make sure this is a short one...

Day 3

Wake up, wash up, cook, eat, clean, pack, ciao! Home Sweet Home.

*********************************************************************************

Just want to say that after Taman Negara took over the mountain maintenance job it has become much better condition to climb and stay at the campsite. Pictures below shows you some of the things they added for the hikers.

Jungle toilet. No need to water flush...self cleaning...hehe...dream on....but it is a big hole under there...anyone wants me to explain how to use it?

The provide ladders for steep parts especially the rocky area. Then Do & Don't for the campsite. Let's observe the Country Code alright!

DSC00561

That's our Guide, Rahim. You have to hire a Guide to climb. Guide 1: 10 Hikers. More hikers required to hire more Guides.

hehe...my name is on the board....it is clearly stated at the Tmn Negara Ranger Hse. Surely they'll come to search for us if we didn't report back the stated "Check Out" date.

Finally, thanks to Mervyn, Kumar and Karen of helping me throughout this trip and compliment to those member whom conquered Gunung Ledang for the 1st time. Well done!

With Regards,

Chee Chung

Back from Ledang - Part 2

Day 2

WE woke up around 1:30am....*hardly slept well previous night coz our neighbour for that night is too noisy and quite inconsiderate...keep on shining their torch light into our tents* prepared quick breakfast and just have to make sure everyone ate enough...so, we left about 2:45am...*not sure why we take so long to prepare though, maybe we are just too stone to wake up at that hour*. interestingly, the guide is bringing us using a unfamiliar route to us whom had been there before. That make things exciting. We trekked with our torches on and have to be careful and to make sure no one is being too distant away til out of sight. The 1st hour of our journey is pretty easy. More on walking along the jungle path and a little bit of ascending.

The major challenge comes when we reaches "KFC"... Don't ask me what's the full term of it coz i don't know. hehe...Mervyn, Kumar & I started making up stories of there is a KFC shop in the jungle and it is run by Orang Asli. Interestingly, some of the members buy that idea....maybe they wanna eat some deep fried juicy chicken in the jungle...but when we started climbing along the "KFC" everyone seems to have forgotten the chicken story and keep on climbing... it is actually a ascending trail and if it is a day time trekking, it will be quite a depressing sight to climb....climb and climb and climb......  that took us another hour. there is where we stop before entering Gua Kambing. Contrary to KFC, Gua Kambing is my favorite trail, it is the starting of all the rock and rope climbing.

Climbing thru Gua Kambing and we reach Botak Hill (about 6:00am)....it is very near to Summit and just another 25mins walk... actually now we are a bit too early for sun rise and it seem to us that the mist is too thick.

AFter the rest, we proceed to SUmmit. Reached there about 6:30am. Everyone doesn't seems to be that excited though...maybe i'm wrong... anyway, finally!.....it is super duper cold up here...with the thick mist and strong wind, it is totally no fun at all. some of the members didn't bring their jumper..and fortunately i brought my sleeping bag and boncho along...so they can share it.

The day is getting brighter but not much sight of the sun. Mist still as thick and we are quite "frozen" now...hehe, not that serious....anyway, at this point of time, our guide is quite pale looking already. Mervyn hinted me to move on and i turn around to tell our guide that we are leaving shortly. so, no sun rise for this trip. But to think about the walking in the dark is quite exciting and fun...doesn't feel as tired of walking during day time. Maybe becoz we only able to think of the step by step trekking and not seeing the tough trail ahead of us...Alright, we move on to leave the super duper cold summit.....Remark: with many negative remark of the members fitness, i would like to comment that they have been showing lots of endurance and show no sign of tireness. BRavo!

Anyway, it was a tedious trip to go down to Paradise and it took us another 3 hrs long descend...

Back to Paradise, we starts to prepare our lunch and then ppl like me took a long nap and when wake up the dinner is ready....once again thanks to Karen for cooking for the officers.

evening we had a simple campfire gathering with singing, games, sketch and sharing....very fun and we had a great time being together.

Then the "kids" took a early rest and officers had little bit more chatting and had our night supper. Somehow we decided  to go to the river to wash our mug and surprise surprise....we saw a few terrapin roaming around the water and one of it trying to catch some fishes for supper.....and goodness! we saw the BIG MAMA terrapin...really huge lo.... hehe....nice adventure indeed...
